The Community Home Lenders of America (CHLA) are calling on the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) to find ways to quicken the implementation of VantageScore in the federal mortgage market, as highlighted in recent articles by HousingWire and Scotsman Guide.
In a recent letter to FHFA Director Bill Pulte, the CHLA commended Pulte’s movement towards adopting a “bi-merge” model, which would require lenders who sell loans to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac to pull VantageScore 4.0 reports in addition to conventional credit score models.
Currently, FHFA and the government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac not only require credit scores for the production of mortgages, but they specifically cite the rising prices of credit report pulls as a pain point.
This harms American families already dealing with price inflation generally and difficult housing conditions in particular,” wrote the CHLA. “Without some form of restraint, we expect even more credit score price hikes going forward. Something must change.
