The VantageScore 3.0 development team considered more than 900 potential factors for inclusion in the model. After evaluating their predictive power, individually and in combination, through 50 design iterations, the team organized the most predictive of these into 13 scorecards, optimized to deliver accurate scores for the largest possible universe of U.S. consumers.
The model was developed using 45 million consumer credit files from two separate time frames, reflecting consumer behavior during the recession and under more favorable economic conditions.
