VantageScore is firmly committed to the belief that consumers should understand and take control of their own credit scores. To that end, we are dedicated to educating consumers about the roles credit scores play in our financial lives; the ways in which lenders, landlords, and other stakeholders use credit scores; and how personal choices and behaviors can raise or lower credit scores. Ultimately, our goal is to empower a wide range of consumers to take charge of their financial lives and to use credit responsibly in pursuit of their dreams.
Below are several resources we’ve developed to help consumers better understand and manage their credit behaviors and the credit scores that reflect those behaviors.
The yourVantageScore.com website focuses on consumer information. Designed to mirror our industry-oriented corporate site (the one you’re reading now), yourVantageScore.com features information-packed articles, videos, and infographics, plus tips on managing credit and improving credit scores.
The Credit Score Quiz
Developed in partnership with the Consumer Federation of America, The Credit Score Quiz is a quick, fun, self-administered test of credit score-related knowledge. Multiple-choice questions address the importance of credit scores, who uses them, and what affects them. Clear explanations of each answer reinforce understanding of important information. A Spanish-language version of the quiz is available at esp.CreditScoreQuiz.org.
A development goal for the VantageScore 3.0 model was to improve the user-friendliness of its reason codes — the brief statements that accompany credit score disclosures and explain to consumers why their scores are not perfect. To further simplify the codes for consumers, we built the ReasonCode.org website. It expands on reason codes’ brief phrasing with longer explanations of their meaning and offers tips on using reason codes to improve credit scores. A Spanish-language version is available at esp.ReasonCode.org.
